About 2-3 months ago, God gave me this analogy. The truth hit hard, but it's something I definately needed to put my life in perspective. I don't know how well it'll sound, or even how true it is, but to me it was plain and simple that I need to let God control my life, because I'm incapable. Here's the analogy:
A little child is sitting on his father's lap in the driver's seat of a car. He feels so important and in control- no way is he letting his dad grab the wheel, nothing is going to happen. "No me!" he's saying, "I can do it by myself. I don't need you." His father gives in and lets him take complete control of the steering wheel, while he has control of the pedals. The child begins turning the wheel and soon he's headed toward a lamp post. Seeing he's headed towards danger, he yells "Daddy, help!" His father lovingly grabs the wheel and guides him towards safety. Seeing he's out of harms way, the child then says, "Thanks, now I'll do it by myself again." The father again lets the child steer alone. Things are going pretty well for a little while, but soon he's heading towards a wall, and again yells "Daddy, help!" Again his father grabs the wheel and guides him towards safety. The child then says "Dad, you just go ahead and drive. I keep trying but I just can't drive like you. Every time I try I almost crash. I feel safer when you drive anyway."
What does this tell you? Can you relate to that little child? Do you ever feel like you don't need God because your life is going so smoothly, but then a big trial or difficult situaton arises and you're saying "God, help me!" So he helps you through, you thank him, then take control back, only to find you're calling on Him for help because another trial is coming?
I hope you can't relate. I hope you can all honestly say that you let God be in control of your life at all times. Unfortunately, I can't. I haven't gotten to the point of saying "[God], you just go ahead and drive. I keep trying but I just can't drive like you. Every time I try I almost crash. I feel safer when you drive anyway."

I can relate all too well, although by God's grace I think I am seeing more quickly the times when I think I am control, and realize I'm not. The older I get, the more times I have to reminisce and recount all the times God proved his omnipotence and trustworthiness, so I am quicker to trust Him these days. Good post!
